Elle, you say the most poetic things. I love the way you see the world. Naomi recommended this macro lens to me. I bought it used and it was very inexpensive. It has been such a gift to me, to orient me toward beauty in this season where we have been sick a lot and Dan's mom passed away and all the feelings that went along with that. I was telling Naomi that often, in the past, I immediately would upload my photos to my computer. But this time, it felt different. I just wanted to sit in the presence of beauty and to be still with it. So I took a lot of photos but didn't upload many of them until weeks afterward.
Love this!! I’m really delighted by my daffodils this year. Totally makes that time that I planted 100+ bulbs completely worth it. What kind of flower food do you use? I’m intrigued by this idea!! Also - I haven’t watched the Floret show (is it on HBO maybe?) but love her instagram and the show is on my list of things to watch.
It is so wonderful that in the north both tulips and daffodils multiply. I haven't had much success with my daffodils coming back here so I mostly have to treat them as an annual. The flower food I bought was a liquid which I found I really prefer and it's called Floralife. I was going to link to it but it was out of stock. I am seeing now that it will be back in stock at the end of April. It made a huge difference. Also, I did see the Floret series once when I was sick with Covid. I don't normally watch tv, mostly because it doesn't tend to hold my attention, but we are currently OBSESSED with an Italian series called Cuori. It's in Italian with English subtitles. Indi and I started watching it together because we are both learning Italian but Dan does not know Italian and we are all totally hooked and will be so sad when it's over. We only have two episodes left. This series for us is like you and the farming game! lol
Yes, I took all of these photos and these are all my flowers! I enjoyed photographing my flowers so much this year! I took so many photos, but these were a few of my favorites! Maeve and I especially enjoyed the afternoon when we sat and observed the bees! Spring is wonderful here in Texas. Our wildflowers are so beautiful too. Summer is your season in Wisconsin. Did you see my mom’s dahlias last year? They were a masterpiece.
I did! In the past, I've planted my ranunculus and anemones in November, but this year I planted them in October instead and it really made a big difference. Unfortunately we had that 90 degree heat wave in February, so I didn't have as much success with my anemones as I usually do. But that was so atypical. In my experience, anemones bloom about a month before ranunculus. In Texas you can plant daffodils between Thanksgiving and the New Year.
I love all the color selections you have picked. Especially the chocolate/dark burgundy one. Royal beauty in the rich tone. I’m always so blessed when my spring flowers bloom. I go through the winter season when my flowers of being pruned, waiting on God, fasting and then bloom in the spring with my flowers.
Ranunculus and anemones are a few of my favorites too. I love planting dahlias and my first favorite are peonies. I learned too that pre-sprouting like Floret does didn’t work for me either. I love all her classes. Tulips have been a learning curve here in Texas. I need to freeze them or buy pre-freezes because they end up short. Learning always with my garden. 😆
You are such a beautiful writer. Thank you for all of this. Have you had success growing dahlias and peonies here in Texas? I heard dahlias are hard to grow here. I purchased some tubers once but then decided to give them to my mom who lives in Wisconsin. They did amazingly well for her there. (And she is an excellent gardener.) I had never thought about freezing my bulbs. Do you mean you actually put them in the freezer instead of the refrigerator? I've had the same issue as you... my tulips are so short!
Beautiful images! Spring flowers are a symbol of hope for me as we dig ourselves out from the trenches of winter. Winters are incredibly brutal for us. The first thing to greet us are little sprouts of green coming up from our tulips. They won’t be blooming for at least another month, but even just that greenness fills me with so much joy and hope. That yes, spring is coming! I love all the varieties you’ve chosen to grow. I love Floret as well! I recently listened to her on the Justin Rhodes podcast and her journey into growing flowers and what flowers mean to her. It left me and my flower crazy daughters so inspired to grow more flowers.❤️
I am so excited to see you here! And thank you for taking the time to leave me such a beautiful, thoughtful and inspiring comment. I grew up in Wisconsin so I used to live through long and brutal winters. I am really in awe of all you do on your homestead. I have not listened to that podcast, but I will check it out. I'm working on some sewing projects and always enjoy a good podcast! Thank you for the recommendation. 💕
The feelings these flowers evoke is other worldly!! Almost as if they are too beautiful to exist on our planet!! 😭

You lucky duck with nice warm and sunny areas to grow flowers. Did you raise all the flowers in the photos. Just curious. So Beautiful!

What beautiful flowers! I’ve never had any luck with anemones but you’re very persuasive. Maybe I’ll have to try again!
Are you living in the south? I can share more specifics if you are! I'm not sure about cooler places, except that they are spring planted.
Oh, so beautiful! Love to see gardening posts for Texas. I’m still learning. Did you plant these in the fall for a spring bloom?

Oh great! Thank you! I will do that this fall 🙂
